Xavier Le Roy - Self Unfinished, David Zambrano - Soul Project and Fabian Barba - A Mary Wigman Dance Evening are three of the international choreographers participating as part of this year’s Not Festival. The works, as well as the artists, have had a remarkable international influence in the contemporary dance scene by challenging the formal definition of dance. What they all have in common is their interest in experimentation and the potential to stir and trigger dialogues and conversations,which are concerns in tandem with the main focus of the Not Festival. The presentations of David Zambrano and Fabian Barba are in part, supported by the Danish Arts Council Committee for Performing Arts. through a grant assigned for these presentations. The presentation of the work of Xavier Le Roy is going to be possible, in part to the generous support of the Dance Education and the center for acting and dance of The Danish National School of Performing Arts. The post performance conversation with Xavier Le Roy is possible, in part, thanks to the contribution of the Further Education Department of The Danish National School of Performing Arts. All the activities and performances are mainly possible by the personal resources of choreographer Luis Lara Malvacias. And the whole event wouldn’t have been possible without Jeremy Nelson, My Lindblad and Gry Raaby’s hard work and commitment to the project.

This event is only possible thanks to the generous contribution of all the involved artists. Participants include performers and artists and from different cultural backgrounds who live and work in Copenhagen, as well as guest artists from abroad. Two artists from the New York based Galou gallery will also be involved. Among others, participants and performers are: Patricia Cazorla (USA/VEN), Daniel Schorno(NED), Nancy Saleme (USA/VEN/PER), Kitt Johnson (DEN), Ursula Eagly (USA), Jeremy Nelson (USA/DEN), Luis Lara Malvacias (USA/VEN), collective “Ultimat Väsen” (DEN), “Vinkepeezer” aka Ivo Bol, Generation (DEN), My Lindblad (DEN), Susan Rethorst (USA) ,Marie Topp RISK:RECLAIM:ENTERTAIN (DEN).

TRANSLATION(S), an international video project curated by: Laurence Wood & Zoran Poposki and first projected in Hong Kong will also be presented.

The Not Festival is a kaleidoscopic, ephemeral, erratic and nomadic artistic object. It embraces the ideas of

global artistic collaboration and the cross-cultural, interdisciplinary, DIY attitudes.Through the use of old and

new artistic approaches, technologies and media it exists outside the realm of the establishment, which

implies generally non-existing financial support. However, its inclusive nature allows it to move inside and

outside of institutions and at the same time avoid the institutional restrictions. This political “object” aims to

fight the standardized and systematized commodification of the arts.

Thus, it is NOT a FESTIVAL.

In every edition of the Not Festival a conceptual framework is offered to the participants

and it is embedded in the title chosen for each occasion. However, it is open to the

artists‘ own interpretations. Participants are not restricted to having to use it, but can get

in and out of it; re- frame it; re-conceptualize it; and fully remove themselves from it to

allow meaning to be created in tandem with their own creative process. The tittle chosen

for this year’s Not Festival is lovelier, the second time around. Happening since 2003,

this is its 5th episode.
